Applications, Bookings and Payments

Enquiries for available places on the course are via the website booking form.

A deposit of £200 is required within 14 days of booking to secure your place.

The balance must be paid in full by 26th May 2025.

Cancellations and Refunds

If you cancel before 25th February 2025, your deposit will be refunded in full. If you cancel between 1st March 2025 and 30th April 2025, 50% of your deposit (i.e. £100) will be refunded. If you cancel on or after 1st May 2025 (for any reason), no refund of your deposit will be made. The balance payment must be made no later than 26th May 2025 – after this date no refunds will be made


We strongly advise all participants to take out personal insurance to cover you should you have to withdraw from the course at short notice.


Instrument and Personal Safety

Health and safety is a top priority on this course, but applications are only accepted on the basis that you accept full responsibility for your own personal health and safety throughout the duration of the course. You are also entirely responsible for the safety of your own musical instrument(s). Please ensure that you have adequate insurance cover in these respects, and that you know the specific requirements of your insurance and observe them throughout the course. Applications are only accepted on this basis.


Players with Disabilities

Every effort will be made to meet the specific needs of any player. Please enquire well in advance of the course date concerning the suitability of any venue for access, etc.


Change of Details

Whilst every effort will be made to ensure that the course runs as planned, it may be necessary to change details without notice. In the event of the course being cancelled (with or without notice), liability is strictly limited to a full refund of the amount already paid by each individual applicant. Players make their applications on this basis.


Dietary Requirements

If you have specific dietary requirements, please ensure you include the details on the booking form as the venue plans the menu for the course well in advance of the course dates.


CURRENT PLAYING STANDARDS – this course is suitable for players at Grade 7/8 and diploma standard.

Guidelines: please note that we will allocate players to groups based on the information given, so please do refer to current ABRSM syllabus guidelines using the links below when making your assessment.

Intermediate standard: Some experience of playing in chamber music ensembles and above ABRSM Grades 7 standard*

Good fluency in a range of music which will involve some technical challenges. You will need to have good intonation, tone production, dynamic range and articulation. All sessions will be one player to a part, unless otherwise specified by the composer. Clarinets will normally only require B flat instruments. Horn players may be required to do basic transposition into E, Eb or D.


Advanced standard: Experienced in playing in chamber music ensembles and above ABRSM Grade 8 / Diploma standard *

To enjoy tackling more technically and musically demanding repertoire, fluency in all keys is essential, plus excellent intonation, tone production, dynamic control and a wide range of articulation. There will also be some degree of rhythmic complexity.

All sessions will be one player to a part, unless otherwise specified by the composer. Clarinettists require B flat and A instruments, alternative instruments (e.g. piccolo, bass clarinet, contrabassoon, natural horn etc.) may be required in some repertoire. Horn players should be proficient in all common transpositions.

We will protect the privacy of the Participant and will not collect any more information from you than we require and will process all data in a clear and transparent way.

All data processing carried out by us is permitted by the GDPR and may include
• Personal details, name, address, DOB, email, phone numbers
• Next of kin, emergency contact numbers
• Gender, medical information
• Photograph, audio and audio-visual recording of company activity

Sharing your data: data relating to participants will be shared amongst staff only where it is absolutely necessary

Your rights to any data held: you have the rights to be informed, the right to access data, to correct inaccuracies, to have information deleted, the right to portability, to object to the inclusion of information, and to withdraw any consents at any time.

Consent: I give my consent to the collection and recording of welfare, health and medical data, including emergency contact and Next of Kin details.


Code of Conduct

Mutual respect for one another truly stimulates our best performance and all participants, attendees and staff on Malvern Winds courses will observe all rules of decorum and show respect for all present.

We are committed to providing an environment that is free from harassment, bullying, discrimination and retaliation. This includes offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, religious (or nonreligious) affiliation, politics or any other personal characteristics. Conduct that is disruptive, causes discomfort or stress to others, is highly unusual or disrespectful are all grounds for removal from the course at the course directors’ discretion.

Adherence to this Code of Conduct is expected of all staff, visitors, and participants. This code applies both to in-person behaviour and when using any communication channels, including social media.
